Introducing Attorney Robin Kelly Associate Attorney at Hollingsworth & Zivitz, Attorneys at Law

Robin Kelly

Associate Attorney

Zealous representation does not have to mean destroying families, and Robin’s vast experience in family law has helped her master this approach when representing clients. Robin has been an attorney for over 20 years, and has been solely committed to family law for the last 15 of those years. Robin’s experience spans across many aspects of family law, allowing her to represent Hollingsworth & Zivitz clients in many areas, such as divorce,/legal separation, custody, parenting time, child support, paternity, prenuptial and postnuptial agreement, modifications and enforcement of prior orders, relocations, emancipations, college expense issues, military divorces, grandparent rights, and parenting coordination.

Robin has litigated difficult and complicated divorces, and she is a trained and experienced mediator, as well as a trained and seasoned parenting coordinator. Additionally, Robin was on the forefront of the Collaborative Law movement in Indiana, became trained in it, and has successfully been moving cases to the Collaborative Law track and settling them for several years, something which helps families prevent their co-parenting relationship from becoming as damaged by the divorce process.

Robin’s life experience helps her understand the myriad of issues that can be presented in a family law case. Robin’s father graduated from the United States Naval Academy, and although the family ultimately settled in Virginia, it was not before she lived in California, Arkansas, and Florida. Robin went to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, then came to Indiana for law school at Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis. Her father’s tenure on nuclear submarines inspired Robin to serve her country, and as a result, Robin sought a commission in the United States Air Force following graduation from law school. Robin served for 6 years at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, as a Captain in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate general (JAG) Corp., where in her spare time she taught as an adjunct professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and at Saint Leo College; during that time Robin also volunteered as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA), representing the United States Air Force’s interests in federal court in Pensacola, FL. Robin’s years as a JAG officer afforded her a great deal of court-martial/trial experience while also allowed her to work in the areas of employment law, torts, contracts, and general legal assistance for Airmen and their families. While serving as a Captain, Robin was named the Company Grade Officer of the Quarter for the entire Air Armament Center, 1997-1998, was presented with the Excellence in Briefing Award while serving on the Air Armament Center Commander’s Briefing Team, received the Air Force Organization Award, and earned the Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster.

When Robin received her Honorable discharge in 2001, she began practicing family law at Mack, Niehaus & Mitchell. She has exclusively practiced family law since that time, with Mitchell & Associates and then with Mitchell Law Group. During these years, Robin’s zealous approach, tempered with consideration for the family dynamic, has earned her numerous awards, the respect of her peers, and (most importantly), positive results for her clients and their families. Robin’s mediation experience enhances her ability to negotiate and settle cases both within and without the mediation setting. Robin also enjoys and is skilled at representing clients in the Collaborative Law arena, something many of her clients have appreciated as it allowed them to achieve successful resolution of their family law situation without going to court.

Robin’s courtroom experience has allowed her to become proficient in litigating family law cases at all stages. She is comfortable examining witnesses from all fields, including mental health professionals, financial specialists, parenting coordinators, custody evaluators and guardian ad litems. No matter if a marital estate is complicated or simple, Robin approaches each case with an eye toward the specific needs of that client, and uses her many years of experience to advise the client on choices, the law, and possible outcomes. Robin believes that being available to a client is a critical part of helping that client face difficulties that may arise throughout the process. Towards that end, Robin’s detailed preparation is coupled with regular communication and compassion.

Robin lives with her husband and two children, is involved in her children’s school, volunteers her time at a local hospital, and served for many years on the Homeowner’s Association Board of Directors for her neighborhood. Robin has spoken at numerous continuing legal education events and continues to be involved with her church.
